Severe Cyclonic Storm Phethai was a strong tropical cyclone that is on course to made a landfall near Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh on December 17, 2018. Phethai originated from a low pressure system that formed under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation in the Indian Ocean on December 6. It transformed into deep depression in Bay of Bengal around 900 km away from Chennai. It was intensified into cyclonic storm on December 14 and as Severe cyclonic storm on 16th of that month.
